प्रारंभिक जीवन और प्रेरणा
मदर टेरेसा का जन्म 26 अगस्त, 1910 को मेसिडोनिया के स्कोप्जे शहर में हुआ था। बचपन से ही उनका झुकाव धार्मिकता और सेवा की ओर था। 18 साल की उम्र में उन्होंने ईसाई मिशनरी बनने का फैसला किया और आयरलैंड के लोरेटो नन के साथ जुड़ गईं। 1929 में वह भारत आईं और यहां के गरीबों की स्थिति देखकर उनका हृदय करुणा से भर उठा।
कोलकाता में सेवा की शुरुआत
भारत में आने के बाद मदर टेरेसा ने कोलकाता (तत्कालीन कलकत्ता) में एक शिक्षिका के रूप में अपना काम शुरू किया। हालांकि, जल्द ही उन्होंने महसूस किया कि उनकी असली सेवा का मार्ग गरीबों और असहाय लोगों के बीच है। 1948 में, उन्होंने लोरेटो नन के चर्च से बाहर आकर गरीबों की सेवा करने का निश्चय किया। सफेद साड़ी, जिसमें नीला बॉर्डर था, उनकी पहचान बन गई। उन्होंने कोलकाता की गलियों में जाकर भूखे, बीमार और मरते हुए लोगों की सेवा शुरू की।
मिशनरीज ऑफ चैरिटी की स्थापना
1950 में मदर टेरेसा ने ‘मिशनरीज ऑफ चैरिटी’ नामक संगठन की स्थापना की। इस संगठन का उद्देश्य उन लोगों की देखभाल करना था, जिनकी समाज ने उपेक्षा की थी। उनका काम भारत में ही नहीं, बल्कि विश्वभर में फैल गया। मिशनरीज ऑफ चैरिटी के तहत अनगिनत स्कूल, अनाथालय, अस्पताल, और शरणालय खोले गए, जहां गरीब और पीड़ित लोगों को मदद मिलती है। मदर टेरेसा ने हमेशा कहा कि उनकी सेवा ईश्वर के प्रति समर्पण और मानवता के प्रति प्रेम का प्रतीक है।
जीवन का समर्पण
मदर टेरेसा ने जीवनभर सेवा का ऐसा अनूठा उदाहरण प्रस्तुत किया, जिसने दुनिया भर में लाखों लोगों को प्रेरित किया। उनके कार्यों को सराहना मिली और उन्हें 1979 में नोबेल शांति पुरस्कार से सम्मानित किया गया। लेकिन, इन सम्मानों के बावजूद, उन्होंने कभी स्वयं को किसी विशेष सम्मान के योग्य नहीं माना। उनका कहना था, "मैं एक छोटी सी कलम हूं, जिसे ईश्वर अपने हाथ में लेकर लिखता है।"
करुणा की मूर्ति
मदर टेरेसा का जीवन करुणा का ऐसा उदाहरण है, जिसकी मिसाल मिलना मुश्किल है। उन्होंने अपने जीवन के हर पल में गरीबों, बीमारों और पीड़ितों के लिए करुणा और ममता दिखाई। उनके लिए धर्म, जाति या वर्ग कोई मायने नहीं रखता था। उनके लिए हर व्यक्ति मानव था, जिसे सेवा और प्रेम की आवश्यकता थी।
अंतिम दिन और विरासत
5 सितंबर, 1997 को मदर टेरेसा ने इस दुनिया को अलविदा कहा, लेकिन उनकी विरासत आज भी जीवित है। उनके द्वारा शुरू की गई ‘मिशनरीज ऑफ चैरिटी’ आज भी गरीबों, बीमारों और बेसहारा लोगों की सेवा में लगी हुई है। 2016 में, पोप फ्रांसिस ने उन्हें संत की उपाधि दी, जो उनके जीवन के महान कार्यों का प्रमाण है।
मदर टेरेसा का जीवन सेवा, समर्पण और करुणा का प्रतीक है। उन्होंने दुनिया को दिखाया कि सच्ची सेवा क्या होती है और किस तरह एक इंसान दूसरों के जीवन में बदलाव ला सकता है। उनकी करुणा और ममता ने अनगिनत लोगों के जीवन को छुआ और उन्हें एक नई दिशा दी। उनका जीवन हम सभी के लिए एक प्रेरणा है कि सेवा का वास्तविक अर्थ क्या होता है।
